【Introduction】：The Marathon Club of Portugal (MCP) was founded in 1989 by a group of friends that began running to fight stress and lose a “bit” of weight.

The Marathon Club of Portugal (MCP) was founded in 1989 by a group of friends that began running to fight stress and lose a “bit” of weight.

As running got more serious, the club started competing in Portugal and abroad, and became a top competitor on road and cross country events with a permanent presence on the podium’s, including the European Champions Club’s Cup.

In March of 1991, MCP organized its first running event, the Lisbon Half Marathon, a race that today still holds the Half Marathon World Record, 58:23, obtained in 2010. This year, the Lisbon Half Marathon celebrated the 26th edition with over 35.000 runners crossing the 25th of April bridge, an iconic symbol of the city of Lisbon.

Today MCP organizes 5 major running events in Lisbon, that altogether join over 80.000 runners every year racing from 5km to 42km along courses that are worldwide considered as some of the fastest and most beautiful courses in the world.
