Geneva: A Beautiful City with Unique Treasures

Geneva is the second largest city in Switzerland. Featuring Swedish tradition and French romance, Geneva is surrounded by lakes and mountains on all of its sides. Mild temperatures beautify the city all year round, and this is a city specially designed by God. At the same time, it is also a metropolis where many international institutes congregate and humanitarian tradition permeates. Now it plays an essential role on the political stage of the world. As soon as you arrive in Geneva, you may perhaps get indulged in the mesmerizing natural beauty of the lakes and mountains, but in fact, Geneva is also a city full of other unique characteristics.

Every city has its own landmarks. For example, Paris has the Eiffel Tower, London has the Big Ben, and Milan has the Milan Cathedral. The landmark of Geneva is the Jet d'Eau, a large fountain that was constructed in 1886 and is located in Geneva Lake. It glistens and shoots to the sky. During sunny days, there will always be a rainbow in the middle of the fountain and could reach 90 meters in height in early times. After the renovation in 1951, the Jet d'Eau can reach as high as 140 meters in height. As it falls, it turns into a huge water fan. If you watch it from afar, you will suddenly realize that it is like a raised sail in the lake.

The Palace of Nations is a famous building in Geneva, Switzerland, located in Ariana Park to the right of Geneva Lake, and you can see the Alps from there. It is surrounded by trees. The surrounding environment looks amazing, and the palace’s decorations meet the standards of a “place of nations.”

The most impressive is nothing but the Broken Chair, which is a monumental sculpture in wood designed by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset and constructed by the carpenter Louis Genive. It is constructed of 5.5 tons of wood and is 12 meters (39 feet) tall. It symbolizes opposition to land mines and cluster bombs, and acts as a reminder to politicians and others visiting Geneva.

The Flower Clock is also a famous tourist attraction in Geneva. Switzerland is famous for flowers and clocks, and what is more amazing is that the skilled craftsmen there combined the two things together and made a flower clock. It is 5 meters in diameter, located in the west of Jardin Anglais, and the flower clock was once the largest in the world. Today, the Flower Clock is still the plant clock which has the longest second hand (2.5 meters long). The park consists of various plants, which are changed to different colors in different seasons. The British style garden features lush woods, grass and flowers, as well as a luxurious fountain and magnificent statues. You may slow down your steps and have a good rest when you take a walk here.
