Thousands of people gathered in Roncalliplatz, the square next to the Cologne Cathedral, on Thursday evening to enjoy performances such as singing and dancing, acrobatics, which was staged by the artists from Beijing.

The magnificent show won lots of warm applause. Laughters, singing and dancing lit up the night of Cologne.

"I'm very glad to see that Cologne has been a good platform to promote friendship and intercultural communication between China and Germany for many years. Thanks to our sister city, Beijing, we can learn more about Chinese art and culture here in the next few days," said Henriette Reker, mayor of Cologne, at the opening ceremony of the festival.

During the three-day festival, Taiji, kung fu, acrobatics, singing and many music and art performances will show the charm of Chinese culture.
