Yuyuantan Cherry Blossom Festival

Date: March to April every year

Introduction:

Yuyuantan Cherry Blossom Festival has been held for 27 sessions as of 2015 and it has become a great event for Beijingers during spring. The main varieties of cherry blossom in Yuyuantan Park are Hangzhou spring cherry and Yoshino cherry. In addition, there are also mountain peach, winter jasmine, and other flowers in the blooming stage at the Cherry Blossom Festival. The scenery is simply beautiful. Cherry blossoms can be generally divided into two series, the early cherry blossom and the later cherry blossom. They bloom successively for a month due to different varieties. The whole park has 20 species, nearly 2000 cherry blossom trees available for viewing, forming “eight sights of cherry blossom,” such as “on the water side,” “blooming Sakura and Crabapple in spring,” and so on.

In addition to viewing the cherry blossoms, there are more than a thousand different varieties of Chinese flowering crabapples. The white is simple and elegant; the pink is like scarlet cloud; and someare just dotted on the trees. They are also worth having a look at.

Activity arrangements in 2015

Cherry Blossom Show: The first one is on the scenic spot of “early cherry blossoms herald spring,” one of the famous “eight sights of cherry blossom.” It is a center for self-fertile Hangzhou spring cherry along the mountain slope, creating a group landscape out of them. The second one is on the “beautiful cherry blossom like pink cloud” scenic spot. The variety of cherry blossom planted there is Sargent's cherry with pink flowers. The trees that are deteriorating will be updated in time in order to create excellent ornamental effects. The third one is along northern shore of East Lake and the willow bank of West Lake. Sakura is planted around the lake creating a one-thousand-meter long cherry blossom landscape on the water front and harmonious scenery along the lake and the embankment.

Photography exhibition: The photography competition “Spring Outing in Yuyuantan Park,” hosted by the park has entered its 12th year. During the event, you can bring your family and friends along with your camera to enjoy the beauty. At the same time, you can also participate in the competition by submitting your photos. Some entries will be displayed on the official micro blog of the park.
