Steamed Grass Carp in Vinegar Gravy is also called “Delicacy from Sister-in-law”. According to a story, there were two brothers surnamed Song who lived in seclusion along the West Lake and made a living by fishing. But, a local villain wanted to hog the elder brother’s wife, and murdered him. When the younger brother fled to avoid the murder, the sister-in-law cooked a carp as a farewell dinner for him. Later, the younger brother achieved fame and got revenge; then he found his sister-in-law, resigned and lived in seclusion again.
Someone wrote a poem to praise the delicacy of Steamed Grass Carp in Vinegar Gravy, and the last line of the poem quoted this story which presented the creation of the dish.
