Minsk is the capital of Republic of Belarus, situated in the center of the country. Nowadays Minsk is the largest city in Belarus. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Belarus. In the downtown area, there is the only subway system in Belarus. Now there are about 2 million inhabitants here, including about 130 nationalities: most of them are Belarusians, others include Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Jews, Lithuanians, etc. The official languages are Belarusian and Russian.
