As a traditional physical activity, scrambling for a sheep is a popular equestrian activity that enjoys huge popularity among Kazakhstan, Kyrghiz, Tadzhikistan and Mongol peoples.

It takes place during observation festivals as well as performances. At the beginning of the competition, the hosts put a sheep on a designated grass and announce the start of the competition. The competitors who manage to get the sheep always work their best to spring to the finish line with the sheep. During the process, the teammates may try hard to protect the one with the sheep.

According to local custom, the winner will drop the sheep in front of the yurt of the locals. Those who see the sheep in front of their door are believed to be blessed and will enjoy an auspicious life and happiness.
