The City of Mudanjiang is named after the Mudan River that runs through it. Mudanjiang is famous for its waters, forests, snow, border, and culture.

History

Mudanjiang was originally populated by the ancestors of the Manchu people about 2,300 years ago. At the end of China’s Ming Dynasty, Manchu people prospered from Mudanjiang River Valley, and finally they entered the territory of the Ming Dynasty and founded the Qing Dynasty. In 1948, Mudanjiang became the capital of Songjiang Province. In 1954, Mudanjiang was reduced to a small city.

Natural Environment

Mudanjiang spans from 128° 02' to 131° 18' E longitude, and 43° 24' to 45° 59' N latitude. Mudanjiang is located in the north of Changbai Mountain, with Mudanjiang River running through the whole territory from south to north. Mountains and hills occupy 78% of the area. Average altitude is 230 m.

Climate

Mudanjiang features a monsoon-influenced, humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters; spring and autumn are brief.
