【Introduction】：The existing five major religions in Shanghai are Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Christianity.

The existing five major religions in Shanghai are Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Christianity. There are 262 sites which have been officially opened for religious activities, with more than 700 thousand religion-believers and 1487 teaching staff. There are 9 municipal religious organizations: Shanghai Buddhist Association, Shanghai Taoist Association, Shanghai Islamic Association, the Catholic Diocese of Shanghai, Shanghai Catholic Patriotic Association, Shanghai Catholic Committee, Shanghai Catholic Intellectuals Association, Shanghai Ethnic and Religion Affairs Committee, National Committee of Three-Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Churches in Shanghai (National TSPM).

Additionally, there are 5 religious schools including Shanghai Buddhist Institute, Shanghai Taoism Institute, China Catholic Seminary in Sheshan, Shanghai Catholic Nunnery, Christian Theological Seminary in East of China, and two religious studies publisher including Shanghai Buddhism Bookstore and Catholic KPS.
