Xinghai Square

Xinghai Square is located in the southern coastal area of Dalian, which is a new landscape for the city. The square is twice as big as Tiananmen Square and is far more than shocking. Here, you can feel the unlimited charms of Dalian while being surrounded by the beacons, monuments, sculptures, and tall buildings; also, you can enjoy the beautiful night scenes.

The entire square is elliptical, a central avenue throughout the square form the pathway from south to the north. The grass on the two sides of the avenue is green. Stone lanterns lined up and go directly to the coast. In the central area of the square, there are red marbles everywhere which is sculptured into different shapes including heavenly stems and mundane branches, 24 solar terms, and 12 Chinese zodiacs figures. The center is a big monument commemorating the return of Hong Kong. On the south side of the square, there is a giant urban sculpture inscribed with thousands of footprints on the ground.

In addition, you can see different sculptures, such as athletes in a competition and skating children. There is also a music fountain around the square. You can see bright and brave Policewomen patrolling while riding on the horses. When the summer comes, the square will become to the venue for an international beer festival, an ideal scenic spot for going wild.

Tips:

1 Xinghai Square is beautiful during the evening and decorated by the colorful lights. The musical fountain begins at 19:30 and will be shut off after 21:00.

2 Xinghai Square is on the east side of Sun Asia Oceanic World and Xinghai Park (about 1.5 miles, you can walk along the beach to get to these places). Dalian Forest Zoo is on the east side of Xinghai Square (about 2 miles). If you take a taxi, it will cost 10 RMB to reach its southern gate, and 15 RMB to reach to its northern gate. Visitors can get to the Dalian Forest Zoo, or Sun Asia Oceanic World and Xinghai Park in daytime and head to the Xinghai Square for the night.

3 Xinghaiwan beach is on the south side of the square which is free for all visitors. A lot of travelers come to the place in during the summer.

Take No.18, 22, 23, 37, 202, 406, 531 buses and get off at Xinghai Square Station. Or take city tour bus to Xinghai Square.

Best visiting time:

The best time for visiting Xinghai Square is from May to October. During summer, Xinghai Square is very crowded. The sea breezes bring fresh and cool air. But the intensive consumer flow volume may lead the landscape to be too crowded for visiting. During winter, the temperature is low and wind is strong, which makes it unsuitable for visiting.
