The square was built in 1896 to commemorate the foundation of the Hungarian nation in Europe for 1,000 years and was completed in 1929. The magnificent buildings symbolize the Hungarians’ memories of the past heroes and longing for a better future after wars. With historical meaning, the Heroes' Square has now become a scenic spot for both domestic and overseas tourists. Whenever major holidays come or foreign heads pay state visits, grand ceremonies will be held on the square.
