Xixi was called Hezhu in ancient times that “the streams in twists and turns are surrounded by the mountains; the famous parks and ancient temples are gathering; and sandbars are filled with the reeds”. In history, Xixi occupied an area of about 60 km2; and now the Xixi wetland is under protection and has an area of 11.5 km2, which can be divided into three parts: the east wetland ecological protection and cultivation area, middle wetland ecological tourism and leisure area and west wetland ecological closure area.
Xixi puts its emphasis on the ecology. To strengthen the ecological protection, the five ecological protection and recovery areas including Feijiatang, Xialongtan, Zhaotianmuyang, Baojiadi and Hejiangang were established in the wetland. And the popular science hall was set up in the entrance of the wetland. In addition, Xixi is also a paradise for the birds and there are many pavilions for watching birds, which presents a splendid scene of various birds flying happily for the people.
