Now, Hong Kong and Macao residents can enjoy the enjoy one-click cross-border mobile payments by pairing their local UnionPay card with UnionPay app. In addition to Bank of China (Hong Kong), Bank of China Macau Branch, K&R international and Banco Nacional Ultramarino, Bank of Communications (Hong Kong), Guangfa Bank Macau Branch and other Hong Kong and Macao banks will support their pairing with UnionPay app during the next month. Residents of Hong Kong and Macau can download the UnionPay App from the Apple Store or Google Play. After registering with a local mobile phone number, users can link and manage a UnionPay card issued by a local bank. Users can then make QR code payments, in-app payments and other types of local and cross-border mobile payments. Bank cards that support UnionPay Mobile QuickPass can also use payment services such as Apple Pay via the UnionPay App. Additionally, the app allows users to collect credit card points, top up mainland mobile credit, pay mainland utility bills and access special offers locally and across the border. In the future, users will also be able to use the app to pay for a range of other services, including local bills, school fees and contactless parking payment.
To coincide with the launch of the UnionPay App, UnionPay is enriching the mobile internet payment scenario in Greater Bay Area and expand the use of UnionPay app. There are already thousands of shops in Hong Kong and Macao that support UnionPay OR code payment, and 300 self-service vending machines accepting UnionPay QR code will be launched soon. Before end of the year, more than 10,000 merchants in Hong Kong and Macao will accept UnionPay QR code payment. Hong Kong and Macao residents can also use UnionPay during travel. At present, UnionPay mobile payment service has covered 41 countries and regions, among which 7.5 million merchants in mainland China accept UnionPay QR code. The application scenarios cover retail, catering, attractions, entertainment, accommodation, transportation and so on, including nearly 400,000 merchants in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
UnionPay International is giving away "red envelopes" and discounts to holders of cards linked to the app. Residents of Hong Kong and Macau who conduct his first transaction through the app will receive a red envelope worth RMB88. Ajisen Ramen, Tai Hing, Wai Yuen Tong, SSP, Pricerite and Commercial Press, and a range of eateries and retailers in Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Zhuhai are also offering special discounts to UnionPay App users from Hong Kong and Macau.
