Longyang Road Station in Pudong will be expanded to enable more commercial and office facilities nearby as it will become one of Shanghai's busiest Metro stations linking five lines, the authority said yesterday.
The station will occupy a core area of the Longyang Road Traffic Hub in central Pudong New Area that will also become a "vital and high quality public activity center," the planning, land and resources administration of Pudong said on its official website.
The traffic hub will cover about 445,000 square meters between the Metro station and Wangjiabang Creek. A pedestrian street, underground walkway and a skywalk have been planned for the traffic hub, the administration said. While commercial facilities and offices would take priority, the revamped area would be eco-friendly and convenient for commuters.
The planning body has displayed the plans at the station to solicit public responses by September 24. People can send their suggestions via guiweiban@sina.com.
The station currently provides links to Metro Lines 2, 7 and 16 as well as the Maglev train to Pudong International Airport. Longyang Road will connect five separate railway lines when Line 18 opens in 2020.
