When it comes to sustainable tourism, the Sanya government knows just how important it is to ensure that future generations will be able to see the fantastic nature that’s unique to the city. Here is a list of the three nature reserves across the city, where people can see the ecologically sustainable practices done by local government while having a great adventure.

Huoling Nature Reserve 火岭自然保护区

Huoling Nature Reserve, which is located on the west side of Luhuitou Park, a city-level protected reserve for more than one hundred wild macaques in Sanya.

Huoling Nature Reserve is ideally located by the South China Sea and nestled among green mountains covered in dense tropical and sub-tropical vegetation. The fruit-bearing trees in the region truly create a perfect paradise for its original residents.

The visitors to the Luhuitou Park usually encounter monkeys roaming free over a manicured park setting with lawns, paths and coconut trees. With such a lose-up view of the monkeys, guests can gain a greater appreciation for the beauty and importance of wildlife.

Yalong Bay Qingmei Port Mangrove Wetland Resort 三亚亚龙湾青梅港红树林自然保护区

The Qingmei Port Mangrove Wetland Reserve is located in Yalong Bay, Jiyang District, Sanya. The reserve has a total area of 1.56 square kilometers. There are 16 species of mangrove trees growing in the reserve, accounting for 18.6 percent of the species in the world. The mangrove forest is one of the best preserved in Sanya.

In the near future, a timber boardwalk, bird-watching houses and a mangrove forest hall will be constructed in the reserve to get visitors up close and personal with wildlife.

Sanya Coral Reef National Nature Reserve 三亚珊瑚礁国家级自然保护区

Approved by the state authority as a state-level nature reserve in 1990, the Sanya Coral Reef National Nature Reserve covers an area of 85 square kilometers that includes three sections in Yalong Bay, Luhuitou Peninsula-Yulin Bay and the East and West Islets.

Each protected section has a core zone, buffer zone and pilot zone. With warm temperatures and a long coastline, these reserve areas are ideal habitats for colorful coral reefs, tropical fish and undersea creatures.
