“Dentro Caravaggio” to Be Held at Milan's Palazzo Reale Late September

“Dentro Caravaggio” (Inside Caravaggio), held at Milan’s Palazzo Reale from September 29th 2017 to January 28th 2018, presents an unexplored new perspective of the Master’s extraordinary production, in the light of new documents and recent researches and with the aid of innovative multimedia equipment, that will allow visitors to better understand his art.

Once again Milan pays homage to the great painter, exhibiting eighteen of his masterpieces from picture galleries in Italy and in the rest of the world, together for the first time ever in the city where he was born.

Deemed as unique, this retrospective not only presents the public with works on loan from major Italian and foreign museums, but for the first time ever Caravaggio's canvases will be flanked by their respective radiographic images thanks to the innovative use of multimedia equipment, enabling the audience to follow and discover the artist's journey from his initial thoughts to the final achievement.

Through diagnostic methods such as reflectography and x-rays, which penetrate to a different extent under the pictorial surface, it is possible to analyse Caravaggio’s creative process, his idiosyncratic painting technique, his changes of heart, modifications and adjustments in composition.
