The Tripartite Economic Summit Guangzhou 2017 will be held in Guangzhou from November 8-10, 2017. Under the theme of “the Power of Three”, this year’s summit will cover many topics including innovation and entrepreneurship, tourism, cross border e-commerce, digital and creative industry, education, biomedicine, animation, urban planning and design, and food and beverage.
Guangzhou, Auckland, and Los Angeles are three mutually twinned international sister cities and important economic partners. In November 2014, mayors of the three cities gathered in Guangzhou and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Tripartite Economic Alliance between Guangzhou, Auckland, and Los Angeles. According to the agreement, the three cities are to take turns in hosting the annual summit to coordinate and push forward cooperative projects among business communities of the three parties. As the annual apex of the tripartite economic cooperation, the summit will bring cooperation and communication opportunities to the three cities.
In June, 2015, the inaugural summit was held in Los Angeles. More than 150 business representatives attended the summit and signed contracts, totaling more than 100 million dollars, in the fields of port logistics, innovative technology, biomedicine, and film and animation.
The second summit was held in Auckland, New Zealand in May, 2016, with more than 750 Summit participants from the three cities’ governments and companies. The Guangzhou Business delegation made 62 cooperation intends with their Los Angeles and Auckland counterparts, covering a wide range of industries including urban planning and design, high technology, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing, cross border e-commerce, import and export, high-end tourism, and ports and logistics. Nine agreements on trade and joint scientific research were signed. Another two technology innovation cooperation projects were also unveiled during the summit.
Over the past three years since the foundation of the Tripartite Economic Summit, industries with competitive advantages have been drawn together to the open platform of the Tripartite Alliance, which in turn, helps develop in-depth cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment. As a successful innovation of international sister city cooperation model, the Tripartite initiative has yielded fruitful achievements.
