【Introduction】:Kathmandu will hold a 2.2km public walkathon between Nepal’s two world heritage sites to celebrate the International Day for Monuments and Sites Week, from April 15 to 21, event organisers said on Thursday.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and federal lawmaker from Kathmandu Constituency-8 Jeevan Ram Shrestha today announced a 2.2 km walking trail from heritage sites Kathmandu Durbar Square Hanumandhoka and Swayambhunath Buddhist Stupa.

On April 15, Minister for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari will inaugurate the trail at Maru Ganesh Temple in Basantapur. On the same day, the metropolis will organise a Tole wise cleaning activities.

The event will exhibit photographs of heritage sites, art exhibition, heritage walk, cycling, live concert and Newari food stalls will be another attraction of the programme.

The world celebrates the International Day for Monument and Sites, popularly called World Heritage Day, on April 18. Established in 1982 by the International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the day celebrates the world’s diverse cultures and spreads awareness on preserving important cultural monuments and sites. UNESCO approved the ICOMOS in 1983.
