Busan Metropolitan City has announced that Haeundae Beach and Haeundae hot springs have been selected as so-called “open tourist spots” for the “2018 Open Tourist Spot” public invitation.
It is being hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization.
An “open tourist spot” refers to a popular area among tourists that has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for its easy accessibility, where all visitors, including the disabled, the elderly, and the young can freely access and engage in tourism activities without any obstructions or limitations.
Since 2015, 17 sites in the nation have been certified as “open tourist spots.”
For this year’s contest, twelve places, including Haeundae Beach and hot springs have been newly selected to undergo necessary improvements in the vicinity.
With up to a 160 million won investment, Haeundae Beach will be transformed into a barrier-free beach for all, including the disabled and elderly.
Tourist convenience facilities, including a disabled access ramp onto the beach, shower stall, changing room and toilet will be expanded for the disabled, the elderly and infirm. The entrance of restaurants and accommodations near the beach will be improved for the disabled as well. A wheelchair lift is also set to be installed at the Haeundae hot spring footbath.
