Sanya, China’s only tropical coastal tourist city, landed at the number nine spot of Smart Travel Asia magazines’ Top 10 Holiday Destinations in Asia.
The ranking is part of the magazine’s 14th year of annual Best in Travel Poll for global frequent travelers without nomination fees or voter inducements, it explained in a statement.
“This market research offers a genuine litmus test of travel trends and brand preferences amongst a knowledgeable high-spend high-travel audience that makes an average 14 annual air trips within and to Asia,” it adds.
Sanya enjoys unique geographical advantages. It is rich in natural tourism resources such as beaches, rivers, lakes, mountains, hot springs, and pleasant scenery. It boasts some of the nation’s most famous scenic spots including Tianyahaijiao, Luhuitou Park, Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone, Dongtian Park, other tourism and cultural sites, and five major bays — Sanya Bay, Dadonghai, Yalong Bay, Yazhou Bay, and Haitang Bay.
Shanghai in China topped the list of Asia’s best holiday destinations, followed by Bali tied with Taipei at number two. Hokkaido, Japan, tied with Dubai in the third spot, while Bangkok landed at number four and Hong Kong tied with Phuket, Thailand, in fifth place.
The SmartTravelAsia.com BEST IN TRAVEL POLL is a market research exercise that has run since 2005. It is an independent, free, and fair poll without nomination fees and gala dinner arm-twisting. Voters indicate their preferences for the best airlines, spa hotels, conference hotels and so on from an unlimited universe.
