175 years in business is no small feat in the amusement business, and Tivoli Gardens has marked the anniversary in many ways beginning in November of 2017 with the opening of the Tivoli Corner, that now also features Nimb Roof, Nimb Hotel’s luxurious roof top terrace.

In Feburary, Winter in Tivoli was introduced as a new season. In March, Tivoli’s new Anniversary Garden was revealed at the beginning of the summer season. In May, the Tivoli 175 Anniversary Parade premiered. The parade can be seen until 23 September. In June, a new book about Tivoli was released in Danish and English.

Back-to-back programme

With the actual birthday coming up, Tivoli is upping the game with an extensive programme of cultural events under the headline Tivoli Celebrates!

Saturday 11 August is dedicated to Diversity as a programming principle. It is in Tivoli’s DNA to make sure that concerts and theatre performances cater to different tastes, and the back-to-back programme for 11 August features titles such as Operap, Modern Steps and Jazz by the Lake. There are also concerts with the Tivoli Youth Guard, Cæcilie Nordby and the Tivoli Stompers.

Ballet and R&B

Wednesday 15 August New York City Ballet opens their five-day Tivoli-visit with a gala performance at the Tivoli Concert Hall, the only European date for the company this year. Later in the evening, R &B singer Solange (Knowles) joins the party with her performance at Tivoli’s open-air stage.

Children’s favourite

The weekend of 18 and 19 August is reserved for Danish children’s favourite Rasmus Klump, a lovable brown bear in red polka dot trousers, who has put together a festival for young children with lots of fun and games.

Tivoli Copenhagen Phil

The festive fortnight ends 25 August with Tivoli Copenhagen Phil’s Birthday Concert at the Tivoli Concert Hall. The symphony orchestra dates back to 1843 and H. C. Lumbye’s Orchestra. Lumbye was Tivoli’s first musical director and known in his day as The Strauss of the North.
