During the World Tourism Cities Federation Qingdao Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit 2018, Mr. Karl Wöber, Director of Expert Committee, released the Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities (2018) ranking lists. The Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities is one of the most important research results of WTCF, and the ranking lists are the essential core of the report.

The ranking lists include the 2018 world tourism cities development comprehensive ranking list, and six single ranking lists. The top 10 cities from the comprehensive ranking list are London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Sydney, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Rome. Among the single ranking cities, London tops the ranking in resource attraction, comprehensive support, and tourism satisfaction; and cities that top the ranking in industrial prosperity, tourism convenience, and economic contribution are New York, Frankfurt, and Geneva.
The total number of sample cities in the Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities (2018) is still 100. In the choice of sample cities, this report has been working in accordance with the previous Reports of Development, and maintains the comparability and continuity of the evaluation index. The report will help world tourism cities to summarize experiences and promote better development.
Aside from the Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities, WTCF also released the Market Research Report on Chinese Outbound Tourist (City) Consumption (2017-2018). This report systematically analyzes the new changes and new trends of China’s outbound tourism market. This report will help overseas tourism cities and related tourism institutions more comprehensively and systematically, and objectively know and understand Chinese outbound tourists, improve and strengthen the providing of related tourism products and services, and enhance service experiences.

When asked about how to attract Chinese outbound tourists, he said, the most concerned issues are the language barriers for Chinese tourists to travel abroad, followed by personal and property safety concern and cultural differences concern. Therefore, when a foreign tourist city is trying to further promote their tourism resources to the Chinese market, the advertisement and promotional materials should be in Chinese, and they should put more effort into Chinese language service providing in order to reduce concerns for Chinese tourists. Additionally, methods such as simplifying visa processing, establishing a Chinese official website, and establishing or increasing direct flight routes to China, would also help to attract Chinese tourists.
