Guandu Old Town is one of the most famous historic and cultural towns in Kunming. It is situated in the southeast suburb of Kunming.

Originally called "Wodong", Guandu used to be a fishing village alongside the Lake Dian. Wodong was an ideal sightseeing destination, as early as the Tang Dynasty, for officials of the Nanzhao Kingdom (738-937 A.D.) around the Lake Dian. In the Song Dynasty, Mr. Gao Shengshi, who was then the governor of Shanchan City (name for Kunming in the Song Dynasty), paid frequent visits to Wodong and berthed his boat on the shore. He named Wodong "Guandu" (official ferry) and took charge of it, setting up the Guandu County, a town that’s still in the area.

Major sights of Guandu Old Town can be summarized as “six temples, seven pavilions and eight shrines”. The Tuzhu Temple and Fading Temple were constructed earliest of all the sights.
