Kunming City (Municipal) Museum is a simple museum with the Sutra Pillar as its main attraction. The Sutra Pillar, created in the period of Dali Kingdom, and taken from an old temple (now destroyed). The museum has other items such as relics from the Dian Kingdom including a tribute state of the Western Song dynasty. A large part of the museum is taken up by a series of shops selling fossils and minerals, however many of the fossils are only replicas. Shops also sell overpriced Chinese paintings, textiles, porcelain and some furniture.
