Gulangyu Islet is tiny with an area of just 1.87 square kilometers. Its highest point, Sunlight Rock, is a symbol of Xiamen. Gulangyu Islet, which means “drum wave island” in Chinese, takes its name from the drum-like sound caused by surging waves striking the reef on the southwest part of the Islet. It has a winding coastline that has natural sandy beaches on all sides. It also boasts interesting and picturesque reefs that give full rein to your imagination.

The islet is clean, tidy and tranquil, with a stunning combination of rolling hills, blue seawater, white clouds, green trees and red roof tiles. It enjoys honorary tiles such as “International Architectural Collection”, “Island of Pianos” and “Hometown of Musicians”. Its major scenic spots include Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden, Piano Museum, Haoyue Garden, International Architectural Exposition, Sea & Sky Palace Complex, Marine World, World Celebrity Statue Gallery and more.

Tourists can reach Gulangyu Islet by boat from the Lundu Ferry Terminal. The boat leaves once every 10 minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and once every 15 minutes otherwise. The fare is RMB 8 for a return trip which is paid on return to Xiamen Island. Lundu Ferry Terminal is a stop on Bus Routes: 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 44, 50, 66, 67 and 85.
