The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is a sign-posted 380km (240 mile) self-drive touring route that leads you off the beaten track. Travel through five of New Zealand’s most interesting and scenic regions, including three major wine growing areas that account for more than 70% of the New Zealand’s total annual wine production.

As the name suggests, this trail promises fantastic wine and food. It also serves up all kinds of cultural and adventure experiences.

Start your journey in the Hawke’s Bay and travel down State Highway 2 through the Tararua District and the Wairarapa region into New Zealand’s capital city Wellington. Then journey across Cook Strait to the south Island and Marlborough where the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail ends.

You’ll discover historic villages, artists’ studios, specialist food producers, live theatre, forest hikes, brewery tours, fishing trips and much more.

The Classic Wine Trail Guide will help you make the most of your journey along the Trail and includes pages of ideas and inspiration about things to do and places to see along the way.

Pick up a copy of the Trail Guide from i-SITE Visitor Centres and rental car/campervan depots when you arrive in New Zealand or from any i-SITE Visitor Centre along the Trail, or, order a copy from the website where you will find also find loads of ideas on how to plan your New Zealand holiday.
