Beginning in 1997 - Rex Royale is iconic in Cuba St. Specialising in independent, New Zealand designers, and often exclusive to Rex Royale. It's one of the few boutiques in New Zealand, still supporting locally made labels and artists.

Hosting exhibitions and selling art, over the years for various artists such as Brendan Grant, Autumn McGrail, Mica Still, Misery, Mephisto Jones, Hadley Donaldson and Arlo Edwards Music is no stranger to Rex Royale either, with the all-day long Bed-to-Air for World Peace being staged from Rex Royale's front window, morphing the space into part-bed, part-stage for Wellington performers like Tommy Ill, Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds) and Module.
