The south Gwangju station is the main subject matter of the famous poem "at the Sapyeong station" written by the poet Gwak Jaegu. The poet disarmed the suffering and worry of life by making the poem looks at the people gathered and waiting for the last train in a white winter's night at the south Gwangju station. He used the fictional place, Sapyeong station, to represent south Gwangju station.

Because of the regression of south Gwangju station, the exciting atmosphere of diverse fish and vegetables is almost gone. However, the saying "let's go to south Gwangju market to buy fresh fish" is still alive. Marine products from every harbor and port are sold from 2 am to 5 am to the other markets or restaurants downtown. The fresh fish sold in the lots are cheap and fresh. So the market is famous among fish restaurants. For these reasons, people usually enjoy shopping there. Until now, the transactions are active with a lot of rich vegetables and fish. Even though south Gwangju station was removed, south Gwangju market is regarded as a worthwhile market for the convenience of living conditions.
