Cycling around Lisboa is one of the most enjoyable ways to discover the city at your own pace, in an ecological and stylish way. Today Lisboa has a network of urban bike lanes that allow visitors to appreciate the different views of the city. One example is the route by the riverside from Belem to Cais do Sodre, along which you can discover Lisboa's 16th century grandeur symbolized by Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower, to the historical memories of the 19th century merchant district in the city centre.

You can continue this "journey in time" by cycling along the route to Parque das Nações where Lisboa of the 21st century lies. Similarly by the Tagus, visitors can enjoy a relaxing ride while contemplating the contemporary architecture, highlights of which include the Portugal Pavilion and the Oceanarium, both well worth a visit.

After a break to catch your breath, visitors are invited to follow another tour that will take you to one of the capital's most emblematic sites, the Campo Grande gardens, along the Entrecampos bike path. On arrival, we recommend a visit to Museu da Cidade and the Bordallo Pinheiro Museum, located near the gardens. For those who enjoy an adrenalin rush and more radical trails, Monsanto Park features a network of bike routes of almost 42 kilometers in length, ideal for mountain bike fans as well as other bike paths for all types of bicycles.

The connections between bike paths can be made using public transport, which allow the free transport of bicycles. On the Lisboa Metro, users can transport their bikes on weekends all day and weekdays after 8pm. Carris offers the Bike Bus service, which covers the following bus routes: 21 - Saldanha - Moscavide Centre, 25 - Oriente Station - Prior Velho, 31 - José Malhoa - Moscavide Centre, 708 - Martim Moniz - Parque das Nações; 723 - Desterro - Algés, 724 - Alcântara - Pontinha.

The more adventurous still have the option of continuing the tour from the Cais do Sodre train station to the seaside town of Cascais, just a few kilometers outside Lisboa, and then cycle the coastal bike path in the direction of Guincho beach.

To start cycling right now, just rent a bike at one of the specialized bike companies, such as bikeiberia.com-LisbonHub, Squareline, Tejo Bike and Guincho Adventours.
