People living in the south have always been curious about what cold winters in the north are really like. Many tourists flock to Northeast China to appreciate the beauty of the winter world of ice and snow each year. The Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang city is a popular destination. People can go skiing and see splendid ice sculptures. Visitors can also witness the spectacular winter fishing on the lake, when fishermen break the thick ice and net tons of fish. The renowned winter fishing ground keeps the world record of netting 43 tons of fish with one net.

Jingpo Lake is the largest lava lake in the world. Visitors not only enjoy the beautiful scenery that extends more than 50 kilometers, but also the Volcano Forest. Visitors can see the remains of ancient Bohai country and explore the origins of North China. In winter, people can see the rime forest and ice cascades.

Tips for Jingpo Lake tourism:

Winter fishing on Jingbo Lake officially begins January 6 and runs through February 28. A series of activities are held, including a car rally on ice, a curling invitational tournament, a youth football invitational tournament on snow, and a painting exhibition and a photograph contest themed ice and snow.

Transportation: There are two-way flights from Mudanjiang city to other major cities in China. Tourists can also travel by train. An expressway from the city to the lake can lead you there, which is about 80 kilometers long. Shuttle buses are available between Jingbo Lake, the snow town, and the Yabuli Skiing Field.

Local Cuisine: Jingpo volcano fish, Russian kabob and sugar-coated berry.
