The Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling

The former residence of Soong Ching Ling in Hankou is a four-story, Russian-style tower along Lihuangpi Road and Yanjiang Avenue. The residence, built in 1896, was originally the Russo-Chinese Bank before becoming the Kuomintang Government’s Ministry of Finance building.

As a great female leader in the history of China, Song Ching ling was the second wife of Sun Yat-sen and she played a prominent role in the 1911 revolution that established the Republic of China.

Soong Ching Ling lived in the building in June 1926 to help support the KMT and its plans to make Wuhan the capital of the Republic China. After liberation, the building was the Shengli art troupe’s station. The building’s original air-raid shelters and rock beds were destroyed and its roof slope has since been rebuilt into an attic.

The former residence of Soong Ching Lingin Hankou is located at No. 162,Yanjiang Ave. It is surrounded by other local tourist attractions such as the Hankou Recreational Waterfront,Binjiang Park, Memorial Hall of Former Site of the Eight Route Army Office in Wuhan, and the Liberation Park. Visitors can get there by old Hankou Circling Bus No30, 502, 520, 523, 527, 548, 559, 581 or 606.
