Crouching Tiger Mountain Park is situated on Crouching Tiger Mountain in the northeast corner of the provincial capital. The forested park has an undulating landform, quiet environment and winding mountain paths, which give it a strong but simple feeling with nature.

The park was officially opened to the public on May 1, 1984, and it’s identified as a comprehensive park pursuant to the master plan of 1995. The park, which is divided between the front and back of the mountain, has a hilly terrain and terraced landscape. It occupies 1,072 mu (715 sq m), and it has 42 plant varieties, totalling more than 200,000 trees and more than 20,000 sq m of lawn. Greenery covers 91.2 percent of its area. The high density vegetation zone and forest jointly constitute the two major ecological bases of the provincial capital of Taiyuan, which play the role of “two lungs” that purify the air in urban areas and stop wind and sand erosion. It has become a land of green fields which integrate the functions of tourism, relaxation, recreation and vacation, and has great potential for future development.

According to the master plan, leaders of the park have set park building guidelines of “being people oriented, plant landscaping, building characteristics of the park, emphasizing ecology and enriching contents” in 2000. Based on the guidelines, the party and administration of the park have made concerted efforts in conducting innovative internal management and increasing external advertising. To be specific, it has taken acceleration of the comprehensive construction and development of the park as its theme, and put emphasis on improvement of the park’s environment as well as gardening and management standards.

Through the unconventional greening, landscaping and infrastructure construction over the past two years, scenic area reconstructions accomplished by the park include: 5 specialized peony gardens, Chinese herbaceous peony garden, chrysanthemum garden, cherry blossom garden and orchard; 8 specialized arbor and crown tree forest areas of oriental arborvitae forest, Chinese junipers forest, Chinese pine forest, walnut tree forest, Fructus forsythia area, clove area and Prunus triloba area; 5 nature scenic areas including South Gate Scenic Area, West Gate Scenic Area, Tiger Mountain Scenic Area as well as front and back of the mountain; 2,800 sq m of flower and miniature landscape production area with annual flower production capacity of over 80,000 pots.

In response to the municipal government’s plan of building an ecological garden city in 2002, Crouching Tiger Mountain Park took the opportunity and speeded up its development, and newly built a Peach Blossom Garden in preparation for the 1st Peach Blossom Festival to be held next year in Taiyuan. The park has acquired approval for a project called Grand Bright Tower, which will become a scenic spot on the main axis of the park after completion. Additionally, the completion of the project at the back of the mountain will thoroughly solve the difficulties in water supply for the greening of the back of the mountain. Those infrastructures along with the gardens will provide visitors with another unique natural landscape.

Based on the principle of “striving for development while offering high returns to investors”, Crouching Tiger Mountain Park invites people with insights from all circles of the society to engage in the comprehensive development and construction of the park, which will provide a favorable investment environment so that make great efforts together to build an ecological garden city and take the lead in development for a better future.
