The open, quiet and forested zoo, occupying 42 hectares (420,000 square meters) of land, is situated in the northwest corner of Taiyuan. Around 2,000 animals from over 150 species are raised and exhibited here. The venue covers an area of over 20,000 sq m, and receives over 2 million overseas and domestic visitors every year.

Among the animals exhibited are imported animals including the likes of giraffe, white rhinoceros, zebra, gemsbok, cougar, and baboon.
