Fu Shan Calligraphy Stele Park is located southeast of the Yingze Bridge on Yingze Street in Taiyuan, beside the Fenhe River. The park occupies 22,000 square meters and has a four-courtyard Ming and Qing dynasty building. Inside the park, there are winding corridors, pools, stone hills and pavilions, all of antique beauty. Most buildings in the park are named with a banner in the handwriting of Fu Shan. For example, the artificial lake in the park was named “De Xiang Chi (Receiving Fragrance Pool)” according to the “De Zao Hua Xiang (receive and create flower fragrance)” written by Fu Shan. In addition, there are large size buildings with halls such as Cheng Yan Tang and Ding Chen Dian.

Fu Shan was not only an outstanding thinker and great patriot, but also a famous calligrapher and artist. His calligraphy reflects that of the Jin and Tang dynasties and can be traced back to Zhuan Zhou. He learned from the merits of different schools of calligraphy and blended them together. He was skillful in the calligraphy styles of Zhen, Cao, Lu Zhuan and Xing. To inherit and carry forward the cultural heritage, Shanxi Fu Shan Calligraphy Research Society has collected the handwritings of Fu Shan and inscribed them into stones. Inside the park, there are 184 calligraphic steles and the collection is still ongoing. The park is magnificent and spacious, elegant and simple. It is a rare venue for enjoying “the wild fun of forests” in a city.
