Luobi (hanging pen) Cave, also called Mount Luobi, is located about 15 km from downtown Sanya, and close to the Sanya Institute of Hainan University. It is a natural limestone cavern on an oddly shaped hill. At the center of the cave, two stalactites in the shape of giant hanging pens hang from the roof. In March of 1992, archaeologists discovered remains of ancient Sanya that date back to 10,000 years ago within Luobi Cave, making it the southernmost historical site of Chinese Paleolithic culture.

Luobi Cave is located at the foot of the cliff, east of Yin Ridge. Outside the cave are towering ancient trees, casting huge shadows and blocking sunlight. The slight noises of cicadas flying and birds chirping are in harmony with the silence of the mountain and the vague mist. There are many tales about this cave. One is that in ancient times, an eminent monk loved the quietness of this place, so he came here after fulfilling his secular obligations, where he became an immortal. Another tale goes that a sacred Taoism book is deeply hidden within the rocks of the cave and will appear when the right person comes. There is also rumor of a giant in the cave, but people have only seen his footprints in and out of the cave, yet have not seen him in person. Indeed, Luobi Cave, crafted by the formidable nature, is a place of mysteries.
