Berliners and tourists alike are surprised when they learn that Marzahn-Hellersdorf is one of the greenest areas in Berlin. One of these green places are the "Gardens of the World" with traditional theme gardens from Asia, Europe and the Orient.

The extended former Marzahn Recreational Park was inaugurated in 1987 for the 750th anniversary of Berlin, when the city was still devided. In 2000, the "Garden of the Reclaimed Moon" was added. He is Germany's largest Chinese garden and symbolizes the reunification of Berlin, for the moon is in the ancient Chinese scholars the symbol for perfect harmony and unity of the world. Little by little, as part of the project to "Gardens of the World", the Japanese, the Balinese, the Oriental, Korean and the Christian garden and an Italian Renaissance garden were opened. Visitors can run a maze and a labyrinth floor, and the Karl-Forster-Perennial garden with its year-round flowering plants to stay.

Around 21 acres the "Gardens of the World" offer not only perfect garden art, but also recovery in one of the most beautiful green lungs of Berlin. In addition to walking, visitors can venture gastronomic journeys - for example, a tea ceremony in the proper style Chinese teahouse. The "Hall of receptions" in the oriental garden and the stone boat in the Chinese garden may be booked for weddings, and the "Hall of receptions" as well for events.

For the future, an English-style garden is planned. This is currently under construction. The international garden exhibition IGA Berlin will take place in Marzahn-Hellersdorf from April 2017. The nearly 100-hectare site surrounding Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World), the Kienberg and along the Wuhle river will become the venue for the 170-day garden festival.

Free wheelchair rental. Accessible toilets.

Note: Different opening times in the Japanese garden.
