【Introduction】:At the beginning of September, the festival for all foodies, amateur cooks and gourmets kicks off the fall on a culinary high.
At this year’s edition of FOOD ZURICH, traditional Swiss dishes once again rub shoulders with global culinary trends, long established restaurants with out-of-the-ordinary settings, and up-and-coming young chefs with old hands from the world of gastronomy. At numerous places in the heart of the City on the Limmat, food experts and enthusiasts cook, taste and indulge in culinary delights.
150 Food-Related Events
For 11 glorious days, Zurich will play host to over 150 events, all centered on food and drink. The program ranges from unforgettable dinners at exceptional locations to a Street Food Festivallasting several days, to professional cookery courses, food tastings, kitchen battles, urban gardening and guided toursof the Zurich gastro scene, all rounded off by further culinary highlights. For the full program, along with all the ticketing details, visit foodzurich.com.
Any “Vörigs”?
Selected Zurich restaurants serve a “City Dish” of their own creation on a given theme during the FOOD ZURICH festival. This year’s theme is “Vörigs”, the Swiss-German word for left-overs or food items in the meal production process that are surplus to requirements and might otherwise be thrown away. Sustainability has never been more important in Zurich’s gastronomy scene, so the city’s eateries will be doing their very best to devise tasty and creative meals out of the “Vörigs”. The special City Dish Day will also feature a “Schnippeldisco”, at which guests will be invited to grate and shred any leftover vegetables they have brought along to the sounds of lively music. All these veggies will then be used to make a tasty soup or stew.
A Crowning Conclusion
The FOOD ZURICH festival will be brought to a spectacular end on September 16 with a fabulous party at the Engrosmarkt in buzzing Zurich-West. The party unites all the festival’s chefs, restaurants, street cooks and suppliers for a final celebration that brings the event to a fitting close. The three main areas will be home to a Market Hall with a vast range of products, a Soul Food Hall, and no fewer than 20 restaurants. And the festivities with DJs and masses of further culinary delights will go on well into the early hours of the morning.
