Mobike heads straight to the nation’s capital to launch its first U.S city today!
Mobike has been rapidly expanding across the globe, working with cities seeking to improve their urban environment through sustainable and smart transportation. As such, Washington D.C. was the obvious choice for Mobike’s launch in the U.S.
Hu WeiWei, Founder of Mobike said:
“We are thrilled to call Washington D.C. Mobike’s first home in North America, Mobike is committed to developing a global bike share culture by collaborating closely with cities, and the U.S. capital is key in achieving this. We look forward to working with more cities across the nation to make cycling the most convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation option for residents and tourists alike.”
The bikes feature non-puncture airless tires, a lightweight and anti-rust frame, durable disk brakes, three gears and auto-inspired five-spoke wheels. The headlights will never run out of electricity, as they light up from the energy produced through pedaling.
Howard University alum and Washington D.C. resident, Kiara McCalvin said:
“I have never heard of or experienced anything like Mobike, so I’m very excited to see all the features I’ve been reading about. And I think the fact that it’s dockless will help a lot of people get around a lot more easily.”
D.C. native Alexus Turner added:
It would help a lot of underserved areas in certain communities like Trinidad and Anacostia, where some locations are more than 10 minutes walking from the nearest bus or metro stop.
Mobike is now operating more than 7 million smart bikes that provide Mobikers over 25 million rides each day, thereby saving 1.26 million tons of CO2, the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road for a year. For a city that is conscious about its carbon footprint these stats count, with the addition of USA Mobikers we are sure that impact will continue to grow.
Mobike has been recognized for its environmental contributions by World Wildlife Fund, Fortune, and the United Nations Environment Programme, and now D.C. is choosing to welcome its service in line with its own green development plan.
