Mobike Rides into 200th City - Berlin

Today Mobike Deutschland has begun services in Berlin.

Berlin holds a special place in the growth of Mobike around the world. In the 200th year since Karl Drais invented the bicycle in Mannheim, Germany, Mobike is now launching its 200th global city, in Berlin, Germany.

Germany is the fourth European country to welcome Mobike, with Berlin as its first city to launch the scheme. Mobike is having discussions with municipal officials to make the service available across more German cities in the near future.

Hu Wei Wei, President and founder of Mobike, said:

“Bicycles mean less air pollution and more climate protection, a better quality of life in our cities, improved health through exercise, greater economic potential for local businesses and improved mobility for all. We believe Mobike will bring added value to German cities with our collaborative and sustainable approach, enabled by our innovative technology using the IoT and custom-engineered bikes”.

The launch was marked with an event at Berliner Freiheit yesterday. Alongside press and members of the community, Berliners were invited to attend the public event introducing the service to the city.

With the invention of the bicycle in this country 200 years ago, we feel it is very fitting to introduce our bicycle which we reinvented for the 21st century here as our 200th city. We are very pleased to have had productive and welcoming discussions with city officials to introduce our model for responsible operations, and look forward to delivering on our mission to improve city residents' quality of life."

Mobikers in Berlin will be able to join Mobike with the small, promotional deposit of just 1 Euro, and enjoy free rides for the rest of the month. The standard deposit will be set at 99 Euros.
