Outbound Tourism Price Index (OPI) is an index system that reflects tourism products and price changes for China’s outbound tourists. This system is divided into three levels: China Outbound-Tourism Price Index, China Outbound-Tourism Price Index of Different Regions, and China Outbound-Tourism Price Index of Specific Destinations.
In 2017, the China Outbound-Tourism Price Index during 2017 Spring Festival is 145.1, rising by 42.9% and 7.8% when compared with December 2016 and 2016 Spring Festival respectively. During the 2017 Spring Festival, China Outbound-Tourism Price Index of Asian Destinations is 160.5, rising by 51.1% when compared with December 2016. China Outbound Travel Price Index of Island Destinations is 193.1, rising by 57.6% when compared with December 2016.
The price index during 2017 Spring Festival increased significantly, on one hand, it reflect a strong demand of outbound tourism market during Spring Festival; on the other hand, the measures against unreasonable low priced tours forced travel agencies and online tourism operators launched customized, themed, or personalized travel products. Statistics shows that it has an obvious increase of the mid-to high-end products as well as quality tours.
When comparing the 2017 China Outbound-Tourism Price Index of Different Regions during Spring Festival to the same period in 2016, the price index went up in Asia, Americas, Oceania, and Island Destinations, especially the price index of Island travel products, which show substantial growth. However, the price index of European travel products decreased slightly compared with last year.
Among the Asia destinations, the price index of Thailand and Malaysia shows substantial growth compare with 2016 Spring Festival while the price index of Korea and Japan decreased.
