WTCF Latin America & the Caribbean Tourism Conference 2022 organized by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) was held online on 13 December. Themed on "Promoting Resilient Development of Regional Tourism after the Pandemic," the conference included three parts, namely the opening ceremony, keynote speeches and the forum. More than 70 representatives from 12 countries and regions attended the event.

WTCF Latin America & the Caribbean Tourism Conference 2022 Held Online

WTCF Latin America & the Caribbean Tourism Conference 2022 organized by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) was held online on 13 December. Themed on "Promoting Resilient Development of Regional Tourism after the Pandemic," the conference included three parts, namely the opening ceremony, keynote speeches and the forum. More than 70 representatives from 12 countries and regions attended the event.

The opening session of the conference was addressed by Lucas Delfino, Vice Chairman of WTCF Council, and Li Baochun, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of WTCF. In his speech, Delfino put forward four significant measures for sustainable tourism development and pointed out that restoring transport connectivity is the key to revitalizing international tourism. Li noted that tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean is facing profound post-pandemic industrial restructuring and the emergence of a new development pattern, and that WTCF will continue to build a bridge for regional tourism cooperation and coordinated industrial development.

In his keynote address, Yu Liang, Member of WTCF Expert Committee and Professor at George Washington University, focused on the theme of "Exploring New Trends of Future Tourism Development in Latin America and the Caribbean". Based on research data, Yu deeply analyzed tourism development trends in Latin America and the Caribbean and studied the future core driver of tourism development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Sun Bowen, Executive Secretary-General of Trip.com Research Institute and General Manager of Inbound Tourism, Trip.com Group, took "Destination Marketing Innovation and Development of Online Tourism Enterprises — Enhancing the Appeal of Latin America and the Caribbean to Chinese Tourists" as the theme. Based on relevant data research of Trip.com Research Institute, he focused on online tourism destinations, and analyzed how to strengthen innovation and the development of product marketing. Yu Jie, Director of the Advertising and Distribution Department of China Tourism News, concentrated on the theme of "Improving the Influence of Latin American Tourism Cities Through Media Communication." In his view, innovation of media communication and brand power of excellent tourism destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean will further boost the international popularity of tourism cities in this region and present the images of outstanding tourism cities.

During the forum session, an in-depth discussion on "Building a New Pattern of Tourism Industry Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean in the New Context" was held among renowned professionals, including Cristina Rivadeneira, General Manager of Quito Tourism Board, Ecuador; José Alarcon, Vice President of the Association of Dominican Inbound Tourism Enterprises and Director of Avoris Tourism Group; Yan Lanru, General Manager of Smart Travel, Qunar; and Meng Fang, Member of WTCF Expert Committee and Professor at University of South Carolina. The speakers shared successful innovative experiences and practices of Latin American tourism cities in restoring tourism development after the pandemic, important measures of tourism cooperation amidst the international environment, and China's future plan for tapping into the Latin American tourism market. Additionally, they extensively discussed the potential and prospect of future tourism development in Latin America, and offered many helpful suggestions for the revitalization and development of Latin American and Caribbean tourism.

By building a bridge for regional tourism cooperation and industrial synergy between China and Latin America & the Caribbean, and establishing a new platform for cooperation and communication among regional tourism cities, tourism enterprises and tourism practitioners, this conference will play a positive role in further bolstering tourism prosperity in Latin America and the Caribbean.
