Golden Days Festival

Copenhagen’s annual Golden Days Festival are inviting you to the birthday party of the year. On 2 September, ‘The Copenhagen Celebration’ (‘Københavnerfejringen’) takes places at Slotsholmen, the island home to Christiansborg Palace, to mark the day 850 years ago when Absalon is said to have founded Copenhagen.

Besides being a day packed with music, 1167 free Carlsbergs, coffee and ice creams, a pool party. concerts and much, much more, Københavnerfejringen kicks off this year’s 16 days long Golden Days Festival, under the name ‘København 850’. During these two weeks you can find all sorts of events taking place around the city. Many are in Danish, but the program also contains special exhibitions, tours and food and drink events that don’t require understanding Danish.

About Golden Days Festival

Golden Days Festival was held for the first time in 1994, and was formed as a collaboration between several cultural institutions in Copenhagen.

Each year, these partners work together to create a festival programme that invite locals and visitors to experience everything from Christian the 4’s Copenhagen to the industrial revolution and the interwar period. With the festival, Golden Days want to make young people interested in history, persuade men to go to museums and the elder to try new thing.

The vision is to share knowledge, history and culture in a what that people actually find interesting, and want to be a part of. You get to engage, learn a thing or two and maybe even gain new perspectives on the society we live in.

About the birthday bash at Slotsholmen - 'Københavnerfejringen'

On September 2nd, Golden Days will be hosting a grand birthday party with music, culture, history, treasure hunts and dj's in the Copenhagen's cultural district at Slotsholmen. Join the free celebration of wonderful Copenhagen, which according to Saxo was founded by Absalon in 1167. Therefore, the party starts at 1167 (right, 12:07) with 1167 free cups of coffee, 1167 classic Copenhagen ice lollies - the "Københavnerstang" - and 1167 free Carlsberg beers.
