Indonesian tourism sector has recorded a hike of 28 per cent in the number of tourists emerging from the United Kingdom, from 2015 to mid 2016. It is estimated that the invent of visa free travel for British tourists, the spike in the number of flights to UK and introduction of non-stop direct flight by Garuda Indonesia, between Jakarta and London Heathrow, has influenced the British tourist flow in Indonesia.
On March’16, over 27437 tourists arrived, which shows a growth of 40.58 % from the arrival figures in March’15. The months of January and February noted an impressive increase of 28 %, against the target arrivals. It is also believed that the growth will continue further more because of the marketing campaigns carried out by Indonesia and other partners. The ministry of Indonesia is currently working in proximity with Garuda International, Embassy, and several tour operator partners.
The recent influx is the result of well placed marketing campaigns consisting of; digital marketing, outdoor media approach, print advertising, direct marketing, social media and several others. The ministry of tourism in Indonesia has also organized a branding campaign for ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ by using LED screening, London taxi wraps etc.
Country member for Indonesia in UK, Richard Hume informed, “We are very pleased with the latest visitor arrival statistics. I strongly believe there is excellent potential for continued growth from the UK market as Indonesia ticks all the boxes and has so much diversity to offer the UK traveller.”
He also added, “The ministry’s policy to remove the visa requirement for UK nationals has been extremely well-received as has the introduction of new flights to the destination. We will continue to work closely with our Indonesia family partners as well as the stakeholders to promote the destination and increase awareness of all it has to offer.”
