Malta's ambassador to China, John Aquilina, travelled to the ancient capital of Zhengzhou in central China to present the Keynote Speech to an audience of 400 people about Malta's advantages for Chinese tourists, and its potential for investors wishing to become permanent residents.

"In the eyes of China, Malta may be a small country, but the country's potential is limitless", Mr Aquilina told the large and interested gathering.

The Launch of the Promotion Seminar

A brief introductory film narrated in Chinese highlighted Malta's history, landscape and lifestyle. This was followed by a short account of the prestigious importance of Malta taking over the Presidency of the Council of Europe during the first six months of 2017.

John Aquilina Introducing his Speech

Mr Aquilina spoke about Malta's major strategic, economic and trading advantages as a member of the European Union, a member of the Eurozone, a member of the Commonwealth, and the only country in the Schengen group of nations to have English as one of its official languages.

“The Chinese have a great love for history and culture, so a short account of Malta's 7,000 year history, and the information that Valletta is to be designated as the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2018, also grabbed their attention,” Mr Aquilina said.

The Launch of the Promotion Seminar

The main reason for the mass meeting, however, was to pass on information about how to apply for the Malta Residence Visa Program (MRVP).

The MRVP has been extremely successful in China, bringing with it the promise of multiple millions of investment Euros to Malta.

The interest in the MRVP among the participants of the promotional event was intense, with many seeking detailed information through multiple questions, followed up by one-on-one meetings.

Support speakers at the meeting were the Private Client Services Leader of the Hong Kong office of PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd., as well as the Director, Wealth Management, and the Regional Chief Investment Officer for Greater China from UBS, Hong Kong.
