Beijing, 18 July, 2017 - KLM Royal Dutch Airlines today announced that Beijing is the next Chinese destination serviced by the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which marks adoption of the new aircraft to all five Chinese destinations: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai, and Beijing. The new aircraft will fly the Beijing-Armsterdam route once per day and once again demonstrates KLM’s efforts to provide the best experience for its Chinese customers.

Bas Gerressen, General Manager of Air France KLM, Greater China, said, “KLM is committed to offering Chinese travelers premium products and services. All five KLM routes to China have completed the upgrade to the most advanced Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, fulfilling our customers’ demands for comfort and the latest facilities.”

KLM will celebrate the arrival of the first Boeing 787-9 aircraft at PEK on July 30. Customers on board will receive a special gift and can participate in a sweepstakes.

A new level of comfort in air travel

In World Business Class, passengers can enjoy fully-flat seats, complete privacy, and direct access to the aisle (1-2-1 configuration). Passengers travelling in Economy Class will appreciate the new seats, which offer 40% more recline. All passengers have access to a power socket for recharging mobile devices, larger cabin windows, on board Wi-Fi capabilities, and a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system with 16-inch screens in World Business Class and 11-inch in Economy Class, all with intuitive touch screen navigation in 12 languages, including Chinese, and significantly richer content choices.

KLM’s B787-9 Dreamliner makes you feel good

In addition to visible features, like the luxurious World Business Class seats, the state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system, bigger windows, more spacious storage bins, and LED moodlights, many features might not be immediately noticed, though their impact is huge. KLM’s Smoother Ride Technology with turbulence sensors reduces the number of passengers who experience motion sickness by eightfold. More pleasant cabin pressure allows the body to absorb 8% more oxygen into the blood, resulting in a higher energy level and a greater feeling of well being for passengers (less ear-popping). The dimmable windows allow passengers to regulate the intensity of light with the touch of a finger. Optimized cabin air, on top of 40% noise reduction due to new technologies, ensures a more pleasant travel experience.

The new service will be available for all customers who book tickets or check in on the KLM website. Customers can also choose what information they receive on WeChat. Investing in the future

KLM consistently invests in a sustainable future. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner’s fuel consumption is 20% lower because of its lightweight structure, advanced aerodynamics, and highly efficient engines. The materials used in the aircraft are more easily recyclable and more eco-friendly. This also adds to a more modest ecological footprint overall. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the main international index for evaluating companies on their performance in terms of sustainable development, has, for the twelfth consecutive year, ranked Air France-KLM the leader in the Airlines category. Air France-KLM is one of the 58 most responsible companies in the world.
