Feb 21: Daily Briefing on Novel Coronavirus Cases in China

On Feb 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Guangdong province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 38 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 705 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Feb 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,928 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,735 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 193 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Feb 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 89,831 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 84,772 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 423 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 976,157 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,929 were still under medical observation.

On Feb 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 6 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 20 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 13 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Feb 20, 316 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 274 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Feb 20, 11,838 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 10,848 in Hong Kong (197 had died and 10,362 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 48 in Macao (47 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 942 in Taiwan (9 had died and 893 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
