Located in northwest Malaysia, Penang,also known as "Pinang", is one of the 13 federal states of Malaysia. Located at the Straits of Malacca, Penang is divided by Penang Straits into two parts: Penang Island and Seberang. The east and north of Seberang are adjacent to Kedah while the south is adjacent to Perak; the west of Penang Island is opposite to Indonesian Sumatra across the Straits of Malacca. Komtar is Penang's famous landmark. It is an important port of Malaysia and the country's third largest city after the capital Kuala Lumpur and the southern trade portal Johor Bahru. It is the capital of the second smallest state in Malaysia - Penang State.
