Beijing's biggest park festival, the Chaoyang International Tourism and Culture Festival, has opened with thousands of revellers watching a parade of performance.

According to the organizers, about 200,000 to 30,000 people are expected over seven days for a feast of worldwide culture, food, music and dance.

After fears the start of the event would be hampered by rain, the skies cleared and the sun shone on performers as they danced off on the center stage of Chaoyang Park.

The second day is given over to the embassies who have set up their booth to promote tourism and local product. The exhibition attracted throngs of people.

The festival procession officially closed at 17:00. But with thousands upon thousands of people streaming along the streets and more arriving every time a bus pulls into a station, the party is certain to go on long into the night.

More info about the festival: performances are available on the central stage, twice a day till the 7th of October. Booths displaying international cuisine and amber products will be open from 9-17 during the seven-day holiday.
