In 2019, the FIS Cross Country Sprint World Cup takes part in Dresden

The city of Dresden is mainly known because of its architectural gems, the treasures in its museums and its great musical heritage. In 2019, from January 12 to 13, the capital of the German State of Saxony becomes also a center of winter sports. Just in front of the historic skyline of the city, the World’s best cross country skiers will race for World Cup points on the bank of the River Elbe. An open air stage around the start and finish areas will provide a fantastic view for over 4500 spectators. The World Cup Ski Arena will provide catering and merchandising for ski fans from across Europe with the option of high-class hospitality in the VIP area. The race will be held on a 800 meter track - the athletes will race two rounds per race. A part of the competition area will be accessible to our guests free of charge.

Dresdeners and visitors will have the chance to use the FIS area on January 20th when the space will be opned for everybody. Those who prefer other winter sports will be able to do ice skating on different rinks: the Konzertplatz rink is located in a romantic forest. On Hauptstraße and later on Altmarkt ice skating rinks are just in the city center. The most romantic ice rink is in the baroque Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski.

Even lovers of alpine ski can enjoy a visit in Dresden - with an excursion to the town of Altenberg, just one hour away from Dresden city center (by public bus, train, or car). Altenberg is also known for its luge and bobsled track.
