Edinburgh Castle crowned the Scottish capital's best landmark

Edinburgh Castle has been crowned the Scottish capital's best landmark, as voted for by Brits who've enjoyed a city break there.

A new study commissioned by Travelodge surveyed 2,000 Brits and asked them to rank their favourite sights and attractions in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Castle topped the list, with the historic fortress impressing visitors thanks to its fascinating story and brilliant views of the city skyline.

It's not difficult to see why Edinburgh Castle has proven so popular.

The impressive fortress has drawn in visitors for decades thanks to its fascinating history, exhibitions and unrivalled views of the city skyline, as well as highlights such as the daily firing of the One o'Clock Gun.

As for the bronze medal? This went to Arthur's Seat, which is sure to be a hit with intrepid explorers.

This extinct volcano can be a bit of a steep climb, but it's well worth making your way to the top if only for the sweeping views of Edinburgh and its incredible skyline.

(It's also the highest peak of a group of hills forming the volcano remains, that also make up Holyrood Park).

Other attractions to have made the list include the statue in honour of Greyfriars Bobby, a Sky Terrier who famously refused to leave his master's graveside and became somewhat of a local legend, to the Royal Botanic Gardens with its incredible flowers and displays.

Travelodge commissioned the survey in celebration of its 30th year of trading in the Scottish city. To mark the milestone, the budget hotel chain commissioned a mural by artist Luke McDonnell, which pays homage to the 10 attractions.
